Time
for the Internet
1999 will
see the Internet playing an ever more important role in education.
Time education recognises that, due to the government's investment
in the National Grid for Learning (NGfL), it is essential that
schools are prepared for this massive learning resource. It is
committed to see that every school has the relevant Internet access
to take full advantage of the information available.
Time supplies
a range of solutions from the stand alone Internet PC, to classroom
networks all linked to a standard phone or ISDN 2 line by the
Intel
InBusiness Internet Station.
This allows a whole class of students to gain multiple simultaneous
user access enabling each child to visit a different Website down
a single line.
To provide
the best quality Internet access Time has linked up with the education
Exchange (Edex), the only core Internet Service Provider
created solely for the education sector. Edex not only provides
access to the World Wide Web but allows for staff at different
educational establishments to work closely together via Virtual
Private Networks.
Time understands
the concern over children having access to unsuitable material
on the Internet. Therefore, each relevant Time education PC has
Cyber Patrol software installed which filters inappropriate sites.
This when linked with Edex's own filtering processes, gives students
a source of information that is clean and safe.
